Relationships have been the most widely discussed subjects for quite some time now. This is because we hardly understand each other in our relationships. Men blame women for being irresponsible and unloving while women blame men for being chauvinists and cheating on them. This translates to a lack of love in the relationship. In most cases, the man is to blame for a failed relationship, although all the blame is pushed to the woman. Here are the most annoying characters of men in relationships from women’s viewpoint.

1. Cheating

This is the most painful thing that a man can do to a lady. Women are very jealous and rightly so, but men feel that they have a right to cheat on their women. Indeed, some men do not consider cheating as a sin or as something that inflicts a lot of pain on their women. The ever-forgiving women forgive their men, but if a woman cheats on her husband, anything can happen- ranging from a thorough beating to divorce.

2. Intimidating the woman

Making a woman afraid by using looks, actions, gestures, expressions, loud voice, yelling, smashing things, name calling, displaying weapons, attacks against pets or property, destroying her property, making her think she’s crazy, playing mind games or even forcing her to do degrading things is very annoying. Humiliating her and making her feel guilty rubs salt on the bleeding wound.

3. Using coercion and threats

Men like making and/or carrying out threats to do something to hurt their significant others. A man will issue threats to harm family, pets, or objects of personal value, thus annoying his woman and hurting her feelings. Threatening her with a weapon, not allowing her to leave or physically confining her adds insults to the injury, as well as making her drop legal charges, do illegal things, do things against her will. Some men also threaten to leave their women, commit suicide, report her to authorities or expose a top secret.

4. Emotional and verbal abuse

Putting a woman down or criticizing her is very painful. Making her feel bad about herself, making her feel guilty and insulting her hurts the more. Most men also like to use guilt as a weapon of control, and whenever things go wrong, they blame the woman.

5. Economic abuse

Although not very common these days, there are men who are still preventing their women from getting or keeping a job. This will make her a beggar all her life so that the man can feel great. In other situations, some men allow their women to retain their employment but control their income in such a way that the lady is not free to use her money the way she desires.

6. Physical abuse

We all know very many cases of wife battering. Any attempt to hurt or scare a lady physically by hitting open-handed, hitting with objects, slapping, kicking, biting, punching, pinching, pushing, shoving, arm twisting or hair pulling is very annoying to women.

7. Sexual abuse

I think women will agree with me that sexual abuse occurs to them almost every week. Some men just want to have their conjugal rights whether the lady is in the mood or not. This is very annoying and it creates a bad impression of sex in the relationship, that it is a duty that has to be done in order for the man to be satisfied. Some of the things that constitute sexual abuse include unwanted or uncomfortable touching, forcing sex, continued sexual advances after being told “no”, “playful” use of force during sex, treating a woman like a sex object, engaging in a humiliating sexual activity, persistently pressuring for sex, coercing sex through a variety of tactics, physically forcing or harming the victim sexually, etc.

8. Jealousy, possessiveness, and isolation

It is very annoying for men to feel so insecure that they become jealous and possessive of their women. They end up controlling or manipulating her by controlling what she does, who she sees and talks to, what she reads, where she goes, limiting her outside involvement. Using jealousy to justify actions, using jealousy as a sign of love instead of insecurity and accusations of cheating, unfaithfulness as well as infidelity are all very annoying.

A man who treats a woman as if he owns her and doesn’t want her to share her time or attention with anyone else is a man to avoid. Men also have this character of isolating their women, controlling her schedule, limiting her involvement in activities, limiting access to telephone/internet, limiting access to enroll in certain classes and controlling her access to resources. These actions destroy the social support system –not allowing the woman to spend time with family or friends, criticizing her friends, so that she doesn’t spend time with them and discouraging her from being close with anyone else.

9. Male chauvinism

It is true that God created man to be in charge of the woman. However, it is not true that a man can use this opportunity to make the woman’s life miserable. Male chauvinism hurts women a lot because it does not appreciate any efforts by the woman. It ignores women and puts all the praises on men, irrespective of whether success revolves around the woman or not. Luckily, with the current campaigns of women emancipation, male chauvinism is headed to a dead end.

A relationship is built on the understanding of the feelings of one another. Men must learn to understand the feelings of their ladies and stop hurting them. On the other hand, women can help their men change their annoying behaviors by talking to them about these behaviors. This way, we can create a cohesive society.
